What is USDT TRC20

USDT is a stablecoin pegged to the US dollar. It exists on several networks: TRC20, ERC20, BEP20, and others. The designation TRC20 means that the token is issued on the Tron blockchain and complies with the TRC20 standard.

When you see an address starting with T (for example, TXYZ...), this is a wallet specifically on the Tron network. If the address starts with 0x — this is an address of EVM networks: Ethereum (ERC20) or BNB Smart Chain (BEP20). They look the same, so you should always select the network separately in the "Network" field.

In P2P trading of USDT for hryvnia on the Binance, Bybit, OKX, HTX, KuCoin, Bitget, and MEXC exchanges, the TRC20 network is the standard. There are several reasons:

  • Low transfer fee — usually less than $1, unlike ERC20, where the fee can be significantly higher.
  • Speed — Tron transactions are confirmed within seconds.
  • Simplicity — addresses are shorter and clearer.

That is why P2P listings almost always specify the TRC20 network. If a seller asks for a different network, this is a reason to be cautious and check the terms of the deal.

How to transfer USDT on the TRC20 network

To send USDT in TRC20, you need to:

  1. Copy the recipient's address (it starts with T).
  2. Select the TRC20 network in the "Network" field (not ERC20 and not BEP20).
  3. Enter the amount and confirm the transfer.

The main rule: always check the network before sending. If you send USDT in TRC20 to an ERC20 address, the funds may be lost forever. Exchanges usually do not return such transactions.

TRC20 or ERC20: what to choose

The choice of network depends on where you are sending funds. If the recipient has an address on Tron, choose TRC20. If the address is on Ethereum, choose ERC20.

For P2P operations in Ukraine, TRC20 is almost always more advantageous: the fee is lower and the speed is higher. A detailed comparison of networks is in the article USDT TRC20, ERC20, or BEP20: which network to choose for a transfer.

How to get USDT in TRC20 on a P2P exchange

After a successful P2P deal, USDT is credited to your balance on the exchange. To withdraw them in TRC20:

  1. Go to the "Withdraw" section.
  2. Select USDT and the TRC20 network.
  3. Enter the wallet address starting with T.
  4. Confirm the transaction.

Please note: the withdrawal fee depends on the exchange. For example, on some platforms it may be zero, on others it may be fixed. Always check the current terms before withdrawing.

How to check the address before a transfer

An error in the address or network is the most common cause of loss of funds. To avoid this:

  • Copy the address in full, do not enter it manually.
  • Check the first characters: T — Tron; 0x — Ethereum or BNB Smart Chain (addresses are the same, so check the network separately).
  • Make a test transfer of a small amount if you are in doubt.
  • Use the MetaRates glossary for a quick explanation of terms.

It is also useful to know about the network fee and TxID — the transaction identifier that allows you to track the transfer on the blockchain.

Frequently asked questions

TRC20 is a token standard on the Tron blockchain. USDT on the TRC20 network is a token that operates in this network, with an address starting with T.

Transaction fees on Tron are usually lower than on Ethereum, so USDT transfers in TRC20 cost less. This is one of the reasons for TRC20's popularity in P2P.

A TRC20 address starts with the letter T (for example, TXYZ...). ERC20 and BEP20 addresses start with 0x and look the same, so choose the network separately. Check the first characters and the network before transferring.

Funds may be lost forever, as the networks are incompatible. Exchanges usually do not return such transactions, so always check the network.
