You can buy USDT with hryvnia on an exchange's P2P marketplace in a few minutes, but most beginner problems come from haste rather than complexity. Below is a universal guide that works on Binance, Bybit and OKX. Button and section names on exchanges may differ and change, but the logic is the same.
What you need to start
- An exchange account with verification (KYC) completed: P2P is usually unavailable without it.
- Your own payment method: a bank card or account issued in your name. Payments from other people's accounts risk blocking and trouble with the trade.
- Account protection: two-factor authentication and, if the exchange requires it, a security code for P2P.
If you do not have an account yet, create one on the exchange you will use: Binance, Bybit or OKX.
Step 1. Find the best price
Before you open an exchange, compare prices. Open the MetaRates rate table and look at the best reliable USDT buy prices on three exchanges: you will know at once where it is cheaper right now. To buy with hryvnia choose "Buy" and the UAH currency.
Step 2. Add a payment method
In the exchange's P2P settings add a bank card or account in your own name. Filter ads by this method: show only those that accept your bank. In the MetaRates app this is the Methods button, where you can pick several methods.
Step 3. Choose an ad
In the seller list you need several things at once: price, limits, payment method and seller reputation. Do not rush to click the first row, check:
- the number of trades and the completion rate, ideally hundreds of trades and 95%+;
- limits that really fit your amount;
- whether the price is reasonable: a sharp deviation from the rest of the ads is a reason to be wary (why).
Step 4. Open the order
Enter the amount in hryvnia or the quantity of USDT and confirm the order. Roughly: 100 USDT at 45.30 ₴ is 4,530 ₴, and 500 USDT is 22,650 ₴. Right after confirmation the exchange locks the seller's coins in escrow and shows the payment details and a timer: you have limited time to pay.
Step 5. Pay correctly
- Make sure you pay from your own account.
- Use only the details from the order on the exchange, not those received in a messenger.
- Do not write words about crypto, USDT or the exchange in the payment reference if the seller asks in the order chat not to; follow the instructions given in the order itself.
- After paying, press the payment confirmation button ("Paid" or similar).
Step 6. Wait for the coin and check your balance
The seller confirms receipt of the money and the exchange releases the USDT to your balance. Check it in your wallet (usually the Funding section or similar). If the seller delays the coin, open an appeal in the order itself: the exchange will review the chat and the evidence.
Step 7. Keep or transfer the coin
You can leave the purchased USDT on the exchange or send it to another wallet. When transferring, double-check the network and the address: a network mistake can lead to losing the funds. Send a small test amount first.
Safety checklist
- Payments only from your own accounts.
- Communication only in the order chat on the exchange.
- Details only from the order, never from a messenger.
- Do not hurry: the "timer" is no reason to skip checking.
- Use small amounts for your first trades.
- Keep the payment confirmation until the order is complete.
Frequently asked questions
Trades run through exchange escrow, which protects against losing the coin, but risks remain: unreliable counterparties, payment mistakes and bank restrictions. Follow the safety rules and start with small amounts.
Usually yes: on most exchanges P2P access requires account verification. The exact requirements depend on the exchange and your level.
