Open the P2P sections of Binance, Bybit and OKX at the same time and you get an unexpected result: the USDT to UAH rate is different everywhere, and sometimes the gap is visible on the very first row. This is not a bug and not a deception. Below we explain why and how to work with it.
What the P2P USDT to UAH rate is
Unlike the exchange (spot) rate, which forms in a single order book, the P2P rate is made of hundreds of separate ads. Each seller and buyer names their own price, and the exchange just brings them together and holds the crypto in escrow. So P2P has no single "USDT/UAH rate" but a range of prices, and what matters most to you is the best reliable buy price (how many hryvnia you pay for 1 USDT) and the best reliable sell price (how many you receive).
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| Buy price | How many hryvnia you pay for 1 USDT when buying from a seller |
| Sell price | How many hryvnia you get for 1 USDT when selling to a buyer |
| Spread on an exchange | The gap between the buy and sell price on one exchange |
| Gap between exchanges | The difference between the same sides (buy or sell) on different exchanges |
Why the rate differs between exchanges
- Different liquidity. Where there are more ads the spread is narrower and prices are more competitive. A smaller exchange may have a wider gap.
- Different users. Each exchange has its own audience: different merchants, different banks, different urgency.
- Different payment methods. Sellers with a fast popular bank charge a premium, while rare methods are cheaper or dearer depending on demand.
- Different limits and fees. Amount caps and exchange terms affect who is willing to quote a price.
- Time of day and news. In moments of nervousness or higher demand prices move fast, and different exchanges react at different speeds.
- Slow fiat. Money cannot be moved instantly from one exchange to another, so prices do not equalise automatically as on the spot market.
How to read the spread
Take an illustrative example. On exchange A the best buy price is 45.20 ₴, and on exchange B it is 44.85 ₴. The 0.35 ₴ difference is about 0.78%. For a person who simply buys USDT, this means: it is cheaper to buy on B (provided limits and payment method fit).
Now the spread on a single exchange. If you can buy at 44.85 ₴ and sell at 46.30 ₴, the difference is 1.45 ₴ (≈ 3.2%). That is a normal "width" of a market: buyers and sellers expect different prices. If you buy and immediately sell on the same exchange, this gap works against you.
Which rate is "real"
There is no single right answer. A useful practice is:
- Do not rely on the first row of the book. It may be bait (why).
- Look at the first several reliable ads (enough trades, a high completion rate) and estimate the median.
- Compare this "reliable" price across several exchanges and for your payment method.
- Pick the best offer among those truly available to you by amount and bank.
This is exactly how the table on the MetaRates home page works: it takes the best price among each exchange's reliable ads, hides suspicious ones and refreshes every few dozen seconds. You can switch between buying and selling and between 19 currencies.
P2P, exchange office or bank
In P2P you choose the counterparty and the payment method, and the market sets the rate. An exchange office has a fixed rate that usually has a margin built in, but everything is quick and you do not look for a counterparty. A bank rate differs once more. There is no single winning option: compare by amount, speed, fees and risk.
Practical tips
- Before a trade, compare prices on every exchange available to you.
- Filter by your own payment method: otherwise the comparison is incorrect.
- For large amounts mind the limits: the best price may be available only for a small sum.
- Set an alert for a target rate instead of watching the market around the clock.
Frequently asked questions
Each exchange is a separate P2P market with its own sellers, buyers, payment methods and liquidity. Fiat is transferred by hand, so the gap between exchanges does not vanish instantly.

The P2P rate is formed by individual ads and your choice of counterparty, while an exchange office has a fixed rate with a built-in margin. Both options have pros and risks.
